3 days ago some homelessness groups and activists made protest on its headquarter with the reason of Airbnb strength the eviction and homelessness in the city.
Airbnb’s San Francisco headquarters spoke at press conference and they expressed they keep their service working across the country said global head of policy of Airbnb Chris Lehane:
“San Francisco is where our community evolved into a movement, Our hosts and guests organized themselves and became a political force.”
“We’re going to build on the momentum coming from San Francisco… to give our community access to the finest grassroots training, tools and support.”
“These clubs are going to be of the people, for the people and by the people.”
This political clubs decision given one day after San Francisco ballot of restriction of short term rental targeted by Proposition F which is the initiative against short term rental companies.
But Proposition F defeated by 55% to 45% to home rental restriction ballot. Of course with the help of $8.5 million valued opposition campaign operated by Airbnb.
But this move turned home rental restriction as a political war against the initiative and Airbnb. At this time voters rejected to measure.
But the head of Proposition F, Dale Carlson is hopeful about future:
“Next year, Airbnb may have to spend $100 million to fight ballot measures all over the place.”
