While restaurants and dining out are socializing tools for many people, a great initiative in Japan did not forget people seeking minimal communication and complete silence while eating: Ichiran Ramen!
Manabu Yochitomi, had the idea of the solo meal while only a student in high school since several women students around him were closing their mouths with their hands while eating and when he came to the assessment of the situation, he learned from them they were ashamed of the noises they were making while eating their noodles and were uncomfortable of people looking at them. So the idea of the restaurant sparked in his mind. The restaurant does not only aim to lessen the human communication but brings the eating experience to almost zero human communication level so everyone can have their own space for solo dining experience.
It is possible to find the restaurant chain in Japan,Hong Kong and New York. Once you enter the restaurant, a ticket sales machine welcomes you, you purchase a ticket and your seat is reserved immediately, so you can just head to the private space where you’ll have your solo dining experience. Once you fill out the order form in front of you, you can press the button where you’re sitting and a compartment opens as a hand picks the order form. The same hand delivers the order. Voila!
The best feature of the restaurant is not only its different service understanding but also having the best ramen in Tokyo.
