Time is precious and should not be wasted. No matter how small the World is now in our mobile phones, it is still important to the naked eye to see black on white writings here and there.

The French company Short Édition introduced the shorty story vending machine and placed them in Grenoble in eight different locations. Each dispenser has three buttons where the readers can choose on demand how much reading time to spare: 1, 3, or 5 minutes. The stories print instantly on narrow receipt paper which makes for easy reading and storage. The randomly printed stories are written by the Short Edition community, and also include poems and other forms of experimental short fiction.

Within the two weeks after its introduction, more than ten thousand short stories were printed and distributed already.

Co-founder Quentin Pleple says that: “The feedback we got has been overwhelmingly positive [and] we are thrilled to see it working so well. There are only eight dispensers in the city of Grenoble for now but we are planning to introduce way more. We are getting requests from all over the world – Australia, the US, Canada, Russia, Greece, Italy, Spain, Chile, Taiwan – that we are processing meticulously one by one.”

The idea of such a dispenser came while the team had a break in front of a snack vending machine in their own Office. They thought that it would be cool to have the same dispenser for short stories. The Publisher adds: “Then, a couple of days later we decided to hack a prototype: the short-story dispenser was born.”

Very well done…
