Uber has plans to develop driverless car with the partnership of University of Arizona.

According to news partaken in The Verge, new self driving car project widely focus on maps and optic safety.  Uber’s official statement proves that already : ” We’ll work with some of the world’s leading experts in lens design at the University to improve the imagery we capture and use to build out mapping and safety features.  ”

Arizona’s Governor Doug Ducey is also express that they focus on particularly mapping and optics research and development. Besides Arizona, Uber also strength their lab power like hiring many experts and donate $25,000 of  University’s Optical Science Collage.

Uber’s CEO Travis Kalanick has highlight the advantages of the self driving car at a conference in 2014 , mentioned the driverless car’s costs will be cheaper than cars with drivers.

“The reason Uber could be expensive is because you’re not just paying for the car — you’re paying for the other dude in the car . When there’s no other dude in the car, the cost of taking an Uber anywhere becomes cheaper than owning a vehicle. So the magic there is, you basically bring the cost below the cost of ownership for everybody, and then car ownership goes away.”

Uber will test map vehicles in a Tucson a city of Arizona. They also made another  partnership with Carnegie Mellon University for driverless car initiative.

We will see whether Uber’s driverless cars reduce cost of ride.
