There have been some statistics in the recent years which lead to an idea that the passengers seated at the back side of the middle lines could be luckier when it comes to a plane crash and even rates were given for fatality but there are so many variable factors that they have come to a common idea that there is not such a thing as the “safest seat”
Some planes have special bedrooms for the crew
When it comes to longer flights like 16 hours and more, some aircrafts have hidden rooms with 6 to 10 beds where the crew can relax and even sleep for a certain amount of time. The Boeing 777 and 787 Dreamliners are two of these.
Did you know that lightning does not affect planes?
Thanks to the developed engineering, lightnings never cause a plane crash since the 1960’s although every aircraft is hit once a year. The electric charge of a lightning bolt runs through the plane and out of it, without causing damage to the plane.
Can tires pop during the landing?
Every passenger has some time the feeling that the power which leads our stomach to change it’s place could cause a serious damage to the tires. But don’t worry. They are designed to carry 38 tons and are six times stronger than car tires when it comes to pressure.
Why are the lights closed during takeoff and landing ?
You surely know that human eyes get used to the lighting around and especially during night flights, the lights are closed so that during an emergency exit, the passengers can easily cope up with the darkness outside. Ok, this is kind of scary.
Why do the bathrooms on planes still have ash trays ?
Unfortunately, some passengers still try to smoke on planes although it is forbidden since many years. The designers continue to place ash trays in order to avoid the possibility of causing fire accidentally.
What happens when one of the engines stop during the flight ?
Planes are designed and produced to be able to continue the flight with even no engine working. So, don’t worry. The pilot is going to have the necessary time period to realize a safe landing.
What are those little holes in the Windows ?
They keep the cabin pressure balanced. The windows of aircrafts have 3 panels, each made of acrylic. The second one in the middle is only used when the outer one is damaged. In order to extend the life of the second window, the one inside has this hole for it.
